Peadar Ó Riada has put out a final call for entries for the Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal competition 2017, which closes this Friday (Sept 29).

 

This year the competition is open to metal reed instruments – consairtín, bosca ceoil, mileoidean, orgán béil agus araile.

 

15 musicians will be invited to take part in the final at Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork on 2 February, 2018. The winner will receive €2500 and the prestigious Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal.

 

"We’re very excited about this year’s competition," said Peadar Ó Riada, "and the quality of entries so far is excellent ... I’ll be announcing the shortlist on my Cuireadh chun Ceoil programme on Raidió na Gaeltachta on 1 December, and we’ll be looking forward then to the final in February."
