Craobh Loch Garman is delighted to announce the first Wexford Trad and Folk Fest, taking place March 1-3, 2019. We have a great weekend of music lined up for you. The weekend features some of the best musicians in the country as well as showcasing the current fine state of traditional music in Wexford. Ultimately, we have set about cramming as much great music into the weekend as we can. Friday, March 1
8pm Liam Ó Maonlaí, Kevin Doherty, Ciaran Tourish, James Delaney - Jerome Hynes Theatre, National Opera House. Tickets €18 (€16 conc.). Tel 053 9122144. What a treat we have in store. Liam Ó Maonlaí found fame with his band Hothouse Flowers. When not touring with HF he is busy with solo work and with trad music group Ré; Kevin Doherty of Four Men and a Dog loves American roots/folk music as much as that of his native Donegal; his fellow county man Ciaran Tourish of Altan is an acknowledged master of the fiddle; keyboard wizard James Delaney has worked with everyone from Rob Strong to Clannad and is as comfortable with R&B as he is with traditional Irish music. This high-powered quartet will ensure the weekend gets off to an incendiary start.
9.30pm Wexford Traditional Singers Session - Mary’s Bar, John’s Gate Street. Hear some of Wexford’s top traditional and folk singers.
10pm The Wild Turkeys - The Sky & The Ground, South Main Street. This talented Ballygarrett quintet are the real deal. All brilliant musicians they are as a tight a unit as you find anywhere with a big repertoire and an easy way about them. Expect this party to go on ’til late!

11am Ciaran Tourish & Kevin Doherty: stories, songs and tunes Wexford Library. Free event. The Donegal fiddle maestro, Ciaran Tourish, has toured the World with super-group Altan as well as performing with top musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. Ciaran regularly performs with fellow Donegal man and former classmate Kevin Doherty. Kevin, a member of Four Men and a Dog, is as versatile as he is talented and, like Ciaran, can effortlessly merge trad/roots from both sides of the Atlantic. Advance booking recommended. 1pm Louise Mulcahy: ’Telling the Story of Women Uilleann Pipers’ - Wexford Library. Free event. Louise is a researcher in Irish traditional music, a highly regarded musician and a much sought-after tutor on both uilleann pipes and flute. This lecture, with live performance, will trace the history of women in uilleann piping throughout the 19th and 20th Century. “Louise is one of the finest musicians of her generation.” Matt Molloy
2.30pm Flavour of Wexford Concert - featuring Wexford musicians – St Iberius Church. Free event. Featuring a selection of fantastic traditional musicians and singers from around Wexford, this show will leave you in no doubt as to the rude good health of the trad music scene in these parts. Fear an Tí is the melodious Matt Murphy.
4pm Seisiún na nÓg - Wexford Arts Centre. Free event. Craobh Loch Garman has loads of fine young teenagers making great music. There is nothing they like better than having an opportunity to meet up and raise the roof. This is an open house. Mar sin, beidh fáilte roimh gach duine.
6pm Rónán Ó Snodaigh: Last of the Fir Bolgs - Macken’s, The Bullring (upstairs). Tickets €10 from Wexford Arts Centre. Tel 053 9123764. Musician, composer, songwriter and poet, the energetic frontman of Kíla merges sean nós with bluesy grooves and wild percussion to create his own unique organic sound. He has been described in Hot Press as ‘the living embodiment of Turlough O'Carolan and Bob Marley’.
8pm Zoë Conway, John McIntyre, Máirtín O’Connor - Jerome Hynes Theatre, National Opera House. Tickets €18 (€16 conc.). Tel 053 9122144. Zoë (fiddle/vox) and John (guitar) have been praised on BBC as “simply one of the best folk duos on the planet”. Button box player Máirtín O’Connor is one of the most dynamic and creative forces in Irish traditional music.
8.30pm Festival Hootenanny - The Sky & The Ground, South Main Street. Corner Boy's Mick D'Arcy has assembled an assortment of talented Wexford musicians, including Bladderack, The Man Whom, Basciville plus some special guests for a late night session with a difference.

Mark and Pat brought the house down at their sell-out show at TradFest 2019. With both hailing from Gorey expect Wexford music to feature strongly in their set.
